How do I transfer Drake software from one computer to another?

There are a few steps to take when you get a new computer that will replace your old one to move your installation there and have all your setup and client files there. If you want to add a computer to an existing network, you should not use this process; instead, use it when your computer needs to be replaced.

Three main steps are included in the procedure:

Your current Drake Tax installation should be backed up.

The new computer with Drake Tax installed.

In the new Drake Tax installation, restore the backup.

It would help if you didn't try to transfer your Drake Tax installation from one computer to another.

Create a backup of the Drake Tax installation you currently have.

Make a backup of your setup and data files on your current computer before beginning. This will be kept on an external drive like a CD or USB. The steps for backing up to a USB or external device are below.

If the USB drive isn't installed, place it in the USB port.

Please verify that the USB disc can be on the computer (or My Computer).

Launch Drake.

Select Tools > File Maintenance > Backup from the menu.

Check the box to select the location of your backup. Backing up to a network or local location

Click OK after navigating to and choosing your USB disc. The backup site is indicated as the USB drive.

Select Include DD Archive and Perform a full backup.

To continue, press the Backup button.

You are alerted once the backup is finished.

Exit or close the backup screen.

Users of SecureFilePro can create a backup, store it there, and subsequently restore it to a new machine. For SFP Backup and Restore instructions, see the Related Links below.

On the new computer, install Drake software online.

Install a fresh copy of Drake Tax from the support website on the new machine. You may find detailed instructions in KB 10983.

Insert your external storage device into the new computer.

Launch the most recent version of Drake Tax.

To restore, select Tools > File Maintenance.

Choose whether you want to restore from a local or network location at the bottom of the Backup and Restore dialogue box.
